Monday 3rd August - Antiques, Jewellery, Militaria, Coins, Vinyl, Toys, Ceramics, Collectables
A large study collection of marine mollusc specimens, comprising numerous gastropod and bivalve shells of varying sizes and species. The collection is housed in a diverse range of vintage containers, including numerous clear glass and plastic specimen tubes padded with cotton wool, small cardboard jewellery boxes, and vintage matchboxes. Several of the glass vials are repurposed pharmaceutical bottles bearing the printed label of the firm Knoll, based in Ludwigshafen-on-Rhine, Germany. Many of the containers include handwritten paper data slips providing collection details. Visible transcriptions include dates from March and July 1970, a location reference to Topeka, Kansas, U.S.A., and a taxonomic label for Glycymeris. Several of the matchboxes used as secondary containers feature Hebrew text, suggesting a Middle Eastern source or origin for part of the assembly. The entire collection is presented in a shallow green-rimmed cardboard tray.
