An impressionistic maritime study executed in pastel and chalk on light-toned paper. The composition depicts a harbour scene at North Shields on the River Tyne, featuring a fishing boat in the foreground alongside a wooden pier. The background shows the characteristic High and Low lights of the North Shields waterfront amongst other buildings. Signed lower right: G.W. Holmes. The drawing is presented behind glass in a dark, gilt-edged frame with a white and brown double mount.
