A late 19th-century maritime watercolour with gouache highlights on paper, depicting a coastal scene with several vessels navigating a choppy sea. The composition features a two-masted sailing ship in the mid-ground, potentially under tow, while a larger two-funnelled steamship and a lighthouse on a distant breakwater are visible in the background under a pale sky filled with seagulls. The work is executed in a realistic style and is signed by Boyce brown pigment to the lower right corner. The piece is presented in a wide, flat gilt-painted mount within a substantial ornate gilt frame with gesso decoration.
