This landscape study is executed in pastel and bodycolour on paper, signed W. Holmes in the lower right corner. The composition features a panoramic vista over fields towards a distant city skyline. In the lower right foreground, a figure is depicted walking a dog along a path, with autumnal trees and a post-and-rail fence to the left. The artist has employed a soft, impressionistic technique to capture the atmospheric haze and light of the scene. The work is housed in a large, ornate moulded gilt frame with foliate corner and centre ornaments, and is mounted behind glass with a double buff-coloured mat.
