A Japanese woodblock print nishiki-e by Yoshu Chikanobu 1838-1912 from the celebrated series Shin Bijin True Beauties published circa 1897. The artwork depicts a bijin-ga portrait of a woman with loose hair and a decorative kushi comb. She is wearing a striped and patterned kimono featuring tomoe symbols and floral motifs, while holding an uchiwa rigid fan decorated with a spray of carnations. The print includes the series title Shin Bijin in three large characters at the bottom centre. The signature Yoshu Chikanobu followed by a cursive monogram kao is located at the bottom left. The item is housed in a modern dark wood frame with a gilt inner slip and a black mount. A handwritten note on the reverse identifies the artist and series.
