Now a retired Trawler man from Blyth J.E. Thompson has produced this depicting an atmospheric Wallsend dockland scene at sunset. The composition features silhouetted dockside cranes and buildings set against a vibrant sky of orange, yellow, and cooling blue tones. The foreground is composed of marshy reeds and a central body of water that reflects the intense colours of the sky and the dark industrial forms. The work is executed with expressive and textured brushwork, demonstrating a focus on light and silhouetted forms characteristic of late 20th-century British industrial realism. The painting is signed J E THOMPSON in the lower right corner. It is housed in a modern dark wood frame with a gilt-effect inner slip and a cream mount, presented behind glass.
