Now a retired Trawler man from Blyth J.E. Thompson has produced this contemporary landscape painting depicting the Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Gateshead quayside at sunset. The composition features the Gateshead Millennium Bridge in the foreground with the Tyne Bridge visible in the distance, set against a sky of orange and grey tones. The work is executed in a loose, impressionistic style with expressive brushwork and impasto highlights representing city lights and reflections on the water. Indistinct marks are present in the lower right corner. The artwork is presented behind glass with a wide cream-coloured mount and is housed in a dark wood frame with a gilt inner slip.
