This maritime scene is executed in watercolour with gouache highlights on paper, depicting gaff-rigged sailing vessels and a distant steamer navigating a choppy sea under a hazy sky. The work is rendered in a realist style characteristic of early 20th-century British maritime art. The painting is signed in the lower right W.T.N. Boyce and dated 1909. It is presented in a gilt-wood frame with a multi-lined wash mount.
