A detailed realist watercolour on paper by the artist W. Holmes, depicting the construction or assembly of large offshore oil platform components at an industrial dockside. The composition features two substantial steel structures on a pier, supported by complex lattice frameworks and flanked by various cranes, including large hydraulic and crawler types. The artist has utilised a restrained palette of sepia, ochre, and cool grey washes to define the intricate industrial forms against a clouded, atmospheric sky. The work is signed W Holmes in both the lower left and lower right corners; the signature is rendered with conjoined characters for the W and H followed by a terminal underline. The painting is presented in a gilt-finished wooden frame with a wide cream mount and is protected under glass.
