A maritime harbour scene executed in watercolour and pencil on paper by George Stanfield Walters (British, 1838-1924). The composition depicts a busy harbour filled with moored sailing vessels and fishing boats in the foreground, with figures visible on several of the craft. The background features a townscape dominated by an imposing Gothic-style church with a prominent square tower, all rendered under an atmospheric sky with soft, diffuse light typical of the artist’s coastal style. The work is signed in the lower right corner. The painting is presented in a gilt-moulded frame behind a multi-lined wash-line mount.
Sight size: approximately 24cm x 40cm.
