A maritime scene executed in watercolour and gouache on paper by the Scottish artist David Fraser McLea. The work depicts a beached sailing vessel on a rocky shoreline with figures engaged in salvage operations. In the background, the silhouette of Dunstanburgh Castle, specifically the Lilburn Tower, is visible on the cliffs against a sunrise. The middle ground shows further vessels, including a steamship with a smoking funnel. The sky is rendered with atmospheric clouds and a low sun. The work is signed to the lower left. The verso of the backing board bears a handwritten inscription in ink which reads: When Storms have Ceas to blow, Dunstanbro – morning., Sailors at work-, D.F. McLea, 1914. The painting is housed in a period molded gilt frame with a textured gold-toned mount.
