A printed commemorative Crossing the Line proclamation issued on board the battle cruiser HMS Renown during the Australasian Cruise of 1927. The document features artwork designed by the marine artist William Lionel Wyllie (1851-1931), bearing his printed signature to the lower left. The central illustration depicts King Neptune and a consort riding a sea creature with the profile of HMS Renown at sea in the background. The ornate border includes banners listing the ports of call for the 1927 cruise, including Las Palmas, Kingston, Colon, Panama, Marquesas Isles, Fiji, Auckland, Russell, Wellington, Picton, Stewart Isles, Sydney, Hobart, Melbourne, Fremantle, Mauritius, Hanish Islands, Suez, Port Said, Malta, Gibraltar, and Portsmouth. The certificate is issued to Frank R. Herbert, Boy, for crossing the Equator. The recipient’s name and rank are written in manuscript ink, as is the date of 31st January 1927. A shell motif to the lower right contains the letters N and R flanking a trident, positioned above an ink signature for B. Hazlewood. This document commemorates the high-profile Royal Tour of 1927, during which HMS Renown transported the Duke and Duchess of York to Australia and New Zealand.
