This contemporary figurative study by Gordon Robinson depicts a seated female nude from behind. The artist has employed a thin wash or oil medium directly onto a satin fabric support, utilizing soft, blended tones to model the figure’s form. The figure is set against an expressive, airy background created with broad, energetic white brushstrokes. The work is signed Robinson in pencil on the lower right of the mount. The verso of the frame features a handwritten inscription on the hardboard backing which reads: AN ORIGINAL PAINTING ON SATIN BY GORDON ROBINSON. The painting is presented in a wide cream-coloured mount and is housed within a stepped gilt-effect frame featuring a distressed silver and gold finish.
